Tuesday 21 April 2026. 08:30 – 16:30 \nThe Nordic chapter of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES Nordic) is delighted to invite you for a special one-day meeting in Copenhagen on Tuesday\, April 21\, the day before the start of the HFES Europe conference. \nThe symposium analyzes the legacy of Jens Rasmussen and the application of his ideas in contemporary and novel human factors research. Marking the centenary of his birth\, the meeting throws light on the unique cross-disciplinary environment at Risø where Rasmussen and colleagues developed models that remain relevant today to safety critical domains including healthcare\, transport\, offshore and process industry\, \nFor five decades\, the Risø group’s concepts have influenced human factors theory\, system safety\, and sociotechnical system design. From the Skills-Rules-Knowledge framework to the Abstraction Hierarchy and Ecological Interface design and from AcciMaps to the dynamic safety model\, concepts developed at Risø in the 1970s and 80s continue to inform research across multiple domains. \nThe morning programme outlines the work at Risø and connects it to parallel developments in cognitive science and systems thinking. Speakers will discuss these topics and their historical context. \nThe afternoon session focuses on current and future applications. Speakers from industry and applied research will demonstrate how Rasmussen’s ideas are currently used in interface design\, human reliability\, risk assessment\, control room studies\, and accident investigation. \nThe symposium welcomes both experienced practitioners and those new to these foundational ideas. The event includes ample opportunities for networking\, followed by a Copenhagen canal cruise and symposium dinner. \nOrganizers: The symposium is organized by HFES Nordic (The Nordic chapter of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society) and IDA Risk\, in collaboration with DSKS (Danish Society for Healthcare Quality) and SimTrans. \nProgramme \n\n08:15 Coffee/croissants\, welcome\, opening\n08:45 Henning Boje Andersen\, Technical University of Denmark\n09:30 Patrick Waterson\, Loughborough University\n10:00 Coffee\n10:30 Najm Meshkati\, UCLA\n11:00 Björn Johansson\, Linköping University\n11:30 Ronald Boring\, Idaho National Labs\n12:00 Lunch\n13:00 Jean-Christophe Le Coze\, French National Institute for Industrial Environment and Risks\n13:30 Panel\, “Rasmussen Redux”\n14:10 Thomas Koester\, FORCE Technology\, “Activating the layers in the SRK-framework in the daily operational context”\n14:30 Coffee\n14:50 Sara Lind\, Risk Pilot\, “Assessing organisational change as a dynamic event”\n15:10 Claire Blackett\, Risk Pilot\n15:30 Rogier Woltjer\, Lund University\n15:50 Salvatore Massaiu\, IFE\, “Rediscovering Rasmussen’s Information Flow Maps in Contemporary Process Control Decision Making”\n16:10 Mikael Johannes Leppä\, Equinor\, “Four common pitfalls in product development”\n16:30 End of day\n17:00 Copenhagen canal cruise\n18:30 Symposium dinner\n\nAnnual Meeting – HFES Europe \n______________________ \nRegistration Fees Prices are in DKK (Approximate prices in €). \n\nSpeaker: 390 DKK (€55)\nParticipant (until March 1st): 990 DKK (€132)\nParticipant (after March 1st): 1\,290 DKK (€172)\nConference Dinner (Optional): 495 DKK (€66)\n\nVejledning brugerprofil IDA for DSKS-medllemmer
